Tripzu

Privacy Policy

Effective 2 October 2026 · Applies to the Tripzu app for Android and iPhone, including test versions distributed through TestFlight and direct install.

The short version

Tripzu keeps your trips on your phone. There is no account and no Tripzu server holding your data.

When you ask the app to read a screenshot, that image is sent to Google's Gemini service to find the places in it, then discarded by Tripzu.

Place names and map points are sent to OpenStreetMap services to find locations and road times. Nothing identifies you in those requests.

Booking, flight and car hire buttons open other companies' websites. Their privacy policies apply once you are there.

Tripzu does not sell data, show adverts, or use tracking or analytics tools.

Who we are

Tripzu is a trip-planning app developed in Sydney, Australia. For anything about this policy or your data, contact [email protected]. We aim to reply within five working days.

What the app stores on your phone

Everything you create in Tripzu is saved in the app's private storage on your device: the places you add, their descriptions, hours, prices and map coordinates; your trip names, dates, home city and hotels; the travelling companions you list (a handle or email address); your language, currency and transport preferences; your work diary entries if you turn on Work trip; and an AI key if you choose to enter your own. Deleting the app removes all of it. We cannot see this data and cannot recover it for you.

Screenshots you choose are read from your photo library only when you pick them. Tripzu does not scan your photos in the background and does not keep copies of the images after they have been processed.

What leaves your phone, and where it goes

Tripzu works by asking a few outside services for information. The table lists each one, what is sent, and why.

ServiceWhat is sentWhy
Google Gemini (Google LLC)The screenshots or photos you pick, any caption text you type, and your trip's destination nameTo identify the places shown and return their names, descriptions and locations. Google processes this under its own terms; Tripzu does not store the images.
OpenStreetMap NominatimA place, hotel or city name you typed or that the AI foundTo find its map coordinates when they are missing.
OSRM routing (routing.openstreetmap.de)Pairs of map coordinates from your planTo get realistic walking and driving times between your places.
CARTO map tilesThe map area you are viewingTo draw the street map.
open.er-api.comNothing about you; a request for today's exchange ratesTo show prices in your chosen currency.

None of these requests include your name, email, contacts, or precise GPS location. Tripzu does not request access to your device's location. The services do see your phone's internet (IP) address, as any website would.

Links to other companies

Buttons such as "Find hotels near these places", "Live fares on Google Flights" and "Compare car hire prices" open Booking.com, Google Flights or Kayak in your browser, with your dates, number of travellers and chosen area filled in so you do not have to retype them. From that point you are on their site and their privacy policy applies. Tripzu may earn a commission if you book through one of these links; that does not change what you pay and does not send us any information about you.

Work diary and exports

If you turn on Work trip, the app lists the drives and parking from your plan so you can claim them. The export creates a spreadsheet file on your phone and hands it to the app you choose (email, Drive, Excel and so on). Tripzu does not receive a copy.

Test versions and the shared AI key

Early test builds include a shared key so testers can use the screenshot reader without setting up their own. Requests made with it count against a quota we pay for, and we can see the total number of requests, but not which tester made them or what was in the images. If you enter your own key in Settings, it is stored only on your phone and used instead.

Children

Tripzu is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Your choices and rights

Because your data stays on your device, you are in control of it: edit or delete places and trips in the app, or remove everything by deleting the app. If you believe we hold any information about you (for example from an email you sent us), you can ask us to show, correct or delete it. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles and will respond to requests from anywhere in the world in the same way.

Changes to this policy

When Tripzu adds accounts, cloud sync or sharing between friends, this policy will be updated before those features launch, and the app will show you the new version. The effective date at the top tells you which version you are reading.
